An electronic trail led me to a story well-worth the few
minutes it takes to read and confirms a personally belief.

It all began with a tweet from a former Director at the United Nations
Environment Programme (UNEP) and Environmental Ambassador to the Norwegian city
of Arendal, Svein
Tveitdal.
He urged those he tweeted to read and consider an op-ed
piece in the San Gabriel Tribune headed “The longer we wait on global warming .. . .” written by Pasadena geophysicist, Bryan Killett.
Discussing his family’s switch to
energy efficient light bulbs, Killett wrote: “Individual actions aren’t enough;
we desperately need real leadership at the national level. At the very least,
we should stop subsidizing the fossil fuel industry”.
The science communicator, Julian
Cribb, recently spoke in Shepparton and while discussing the collision of
circumstances with the potential to destabilize the world’s populations he argued
the real difficulties would not be for existing generations, rather their children
and grandchildren.
Cribb’s reason for visiting the
Goulburn Valley was to discuss food security and in answer to a question about
what action people should take, he suggested that the urgency of the matter be
constantly brought before our decision makers.
In effect, what he was saying was
that we can no longer continue with “business as usual”, but needed courageous and
visionary leaders willing to help us understand and address new ways of living.
To repeat Killett: “we desperately
need real leadership at the national level”.
