Adaptation? For many Chinese it's a face mask and now it's fashionable

A normal daily happening in China
 - people protecting themselves from
 air pollution with face masks.
Mention adaptation in relation to climate change and out thoughts immediately jump to things like renewable energy in all its forms, walking more and driving less, or maybe growing a few vegies in our backyards to cut down on “food miles”, but rarely is fashion a consideration.

The lifestyle that has given us a seriously disrupted atmosphere and so is changing our climate, has also brought with it serious air pollution.

Apparently the most serious air pollution problems are to be found in China and although that country is probably leading the world in its efforts to mitigate climate change, and its associated problems, it seems to have accepted the reality and the fact that life will be different in a polluted environment.

Air pollution brings many problems, the most obvious, and urgent; being the difficulty it makes for breathing and so now the ubiquitous face mask has become, it seems, a fashion statement.

This series of pictures - "China’s pollution crisis inspires smog mask fashion show" – makes one wonder whether it is adaption or capitulation?
