Writing in his latest book, “Conundrum”, David Owen
discusses our response to arresting climate difficulties and one of the many
solutions he points to a serious reduction in our mobility.
That is, we should drive, train and plane far less and walk
more frequently.
The American journalist and author, proffers many ideas with
the chief among them be the idea that we live closer to everything that is
important in our day-to-day lives, therefor making walking vastly more likely.
He directs readers to the website – walkscore.com – that rates
your home with a score between one and 100 (the higher the score the better).
The whole “walkscore” idea has been taken up
enthusiastically by some U.S. real estate agents as a home’s market value rises
in keeping with its walkability.
