Connecting the dots difficult when the spin sets in

Writing in her 1997 published book, Global Spin, Sharon Beder said in discussing the Koyoto Treaty said;

Global Spin
by
 Sharon Beder.
“In September 1995 the Intergovernmental Panel on ClimateChange (IPCC), which involves 2,500 climate scientists, issued a landmark statement representing a level of consensus that had not previously been achieved on the issue of global warming. The panel stated that the ‘balance of evidence suggests that there is discernible human influence on global climate’ and that climatic instability was likely to cause ‘widespread economic, social and environmental dislocation of the next century’.

“Yet this level of consensus amongst the world’s climate scientists is not widely known,” she continued, “because the corporations that would be affected by measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions have waged a deceptive campaign to confuse the public and policy-makers on the issue.”

The need to abate our greenhouse gas emissions is urgent and Beneath the Wisteria will be a part of a world-wide campaign on May 5 in which people will be urged to “Connect the Dots” – that is consider the climate disruptions and the subsequent extreme weather events occurring around the world, including many parts of Australia and the Goulburn Valley, and within that understand that those weather happenings are connected to the human-induced changes to our climate.
