| Australia's PM, Julia Gillard - courageous and daring. |
This morning (June 30) the “Northern Chapter” of Beneath the Wisteria met for nearly an
hour at a Cotton Tree coffee shop.
Discussion among the four who attended concentrated for a
while, obviously, on the Federal Government’s new carbon tax as the meeting was
effectively on the eve of the new charge’s introduction.
It was generally agreed that although the process may not be
perfect, it was an honourable and worthy attempt and although avoiding taking
political sides, it was felt that Prime Minister Julia Gillard had shown courage
and rare political daring to persevere with the introduction of the new charge.
Discussion focused on sustainability, recycling and the need
for systemic change, engendered by charismatic leadership that would alter our
consumerist ways, subsequently reducing our wants and within that easing the
pressure humanity is putting on earth’s finite resources and beyond that our
demand for energy; energy that is mostly produced through our the burning of
fossil fuels that produce huge amounts of carbon dioxide.
The group agreed it would met again next month.
