Climate change ackowledged, but when we will take it seriously

Climate change has been broadly acknowledged by defence forces among many of the world’s nations.

Retired senior officer with the Royal Australian Navy, Admiral Chris Barrie, as the Chief of the Defence Force from 1998 to 2002, attended a UK conference March last year at which climate change and security was discussed.

Admiral Barrie was sure his invitation to the conference resulted from his membership of the expert advisory panel for the Australian National University’s Climate Change Institute.

He has written about his UK experience for the ABC in a story headed: “When will we take climate change seriously?
