Letter to The Age regarding John McLean's comment

John McLean argues it is politics that clouds the climate change debate (“debate” suggests something is unresolved, but climate change is quite the opposite as it is unequivocally real) and it is Mr McLean’s observations that cloud the issue.

It disappoints me that The Age (my Age) had insufficient integrity to allow publication of such confused and scientifically wrong comment piece from a fellow implicated in an organisation loaded with climate change skeptics.

Information immediately following the piece, proudly declares Mr McLean to be a member of the International Climate Science Coalition and research that took just moments illustrates that the chief science advisor for that organization is Professor bob Carter, who was attached to Queensland’s James Cook University, and who is not in favour with most of the world’s leading climatologists.

This is a conversation that is ultimately about the survival of humanity, or most certainly the comfortable modern life we have become accustomed to, and while it can only be advanced through genuine scientific scepticism, any useful answer will not be achieved through the publication of such falsehoods.

Any useful mitigation of climate change rests with brutal honesty, courage and will to do what needs to be done.
