Are cities our 'lifeboats' or really just an anchor?

Benjamin Barber.
Some see cities as our “lifeboats” in a future unsettled world, others can illustrate through figures that they are at the seat of many of the world’s difficulties.

Radio National’s Geraldine Doogue interviewed a senior research scholar with the Centre of Philanthropy and Civil Society at the City University of New York, Benjamin Barber, who has written about his belief that mayors should rule the world.

Barber sees mayor being much more agile and influential at a local level and so able to play a much more effective role than nations in mitigating climate change.

The interview, entitled “Mayors Rule” takes just 18 minute to listen to – it’s worth it.
