Beneath the Wisteria friend, Prof Kate Auty, has resigned

Professor Kate Auty.
Beneath the Wisteria friend and Victoria’s Sustainability Commissioner, Professor Kate Auty, has resigned.

Prof Auty, who was the MC at Shepparton’s “Slap Tomorrow – A Wake-Up Call” forum in June last year, was to end her term as commissioner in June this year, but has told the government she will stand down at the end of this month, having achieved all she had wanted.

Melbourne Age environmental editor, Tom Arup, reported on Prof Auty’s sudden departure in a story headed: “Environment boss quits, drops bucket”.

She left amid a debate about terms used to describe what is happening because of our damage climate.

Prof Auty believes the term “climate change” describes the human impact on what is happening in the world and yet the Victorian State Government had directed that public servants use “climate variability”.
