Last year, 2013, was
the hottest on record.
And now, as the ABC reports: “UN climate change report card: Scientists predict Australia will continue to get hotter”.
A recent Melbourne meeting looked at historical records and
noted that by the end of this century the record breaking temperatures of last
year will among the cooler years.
“Scientists believe the world,” the report noted, “is still
on track to become more than 2 degree Celsius warmer – and that potentially
means whole ecosystems could be wiped out”.
According to the ABC story in the worst-case scenario (some
that now seems unavoidable) for the Murray-Darling Basin, south-east and
south-west Australia could mean a significant drop in agricultural production.
