We are quickly reaching a moment in history when we will
again hear that observation.
Prof Stephen Gardiner, of the University of Washington,
Seattle, has warned Australians that such a claim will again soon be foisted upon
us circumstances resulting from climate change worsen.
The professor, who spoke at as University of Melbourne event
on Friday last week, had earlier been Gardiner in Sydney for a two-day
symposium that aimed to grapple with the moral and ethical consequences of
geoengineering, also known as climate modification. He addressed the same issue
in his Melbourne lecture.
In a story published in The
Guardian headed: “Failure to deal with ethics will make climate engineering‘ unviable’”, the professor said so-called geoengineering risked making problems
worse for future generations.
