The ragged remains of our climate mitigation strategy

Australia’s Renewable Energy Target is about all that is left of the country’s formal climate change mitigation strategy.

Tristan Edis.
That too is now threatened with severe cuts and even total demolition.

Writing today in the Sydney Morning Herald, Peter Hannam said reducing the national Renewable Energy Target (RET) would generate $10 billion in extra profit over the next 15 years for owners of coal and gas-fired power plants while consumers pay more.

Hannam, writing in a story headed: “Weaker RET would transfer $10b to big power firms”, referred to a new analysis commissioned by green groups.

Meanwhile Tristan Edis writing on Climate Spectator in a story headed: “Warburton not extreme enough for Abbott?” has pondered about what is really happening.
