Barbara Norman tells us again how our cities will be our 'lifeboats'

About five years ago Brendan Gleeson discussed the importance of cities in rescuing us from the worst of climate change.

The University of Melbourne Professor of Urban Policy Studies and director of the Melbourne Sustainable Society Institute wrote about the importance and value of cities in 2010 book, “Life Boat Cities”.

And now, the Foundation Chair of Urban and Regional Planning at the University of Canberra, Barbara Norman, has written on The Conversation that “Cities could be the secret to fighting climate change”.

“Currently cities consume 78% of the world’s energy and produce more than 60% of all carbon. Cities are major contributors to climate change, but they’re also highly vulnerable to the risks, especially those on the coast,” she writes.
