Australia’s dumping
of the carbon tax was lamented by thinking people all around the world.
Reasons for that sadness are now clearly apparent with the carbon
intensity of Australia's main electricity grid having surged since the tax was abandoned.
Writing in the Sydney
Morning Herald, the Environment Editor, Peter Hannam, said that on an
annualised basis, emissions from the National Electricity Market serving
eastern Australia have risen by 3.9 million tonnes since June, while the
sector's emissions intensity has risen 11 per cent.
His story, headed: “Emissions for power sector jump as carbon tax ends” discusses this jump in carbon emissions.
