Extreme weather is now 'normal' for many people

UN Secretary General, Bank Ki-moon
  - we are becoming
normalized to extreme weather.
Australians, along with the rest of humanity, are becoming normalized to extreme weather.

As we systematically, and almost mechanically, go about killing our fellows, violence becomes normalized, so does our sense of what is normal as our damaged climate system brings on an increasing number of extreme weather events.

Today’s Melbourne Age tells its readers that they are correct if they feel major humanitarian emergencies are happening more often.

Its story: “Extreme weather the new normal in Australia's disaster-prone neighbourhood”, reports on a comment by United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, who told a disaster risk reduction conference in Japan on Saturday that climate change is making extreme weather events the new normal.
