Here is the good
news: US carbon emissions stabilized in 2014; the bad news: it’s only the first
step in a journey of a thousand steps.
“Stabilization” sounds wonderful, and is to the uninitiated,
but is absolutely inadequate when the world actual needs to achieve negative emissions.
The Huffington Posts reports on this US achievement in a
story headed: “Carbon Emissions Stabilized In 2014; Shows Efforts To Combat Climate Change May Be Working”.
It reports, “Solar, wind and other renewables are making
such a big difference in greenhouse gas emissions worldwide that global
emissions from the energy sector flatlined during a time of economic growth for
the first time in 40 years.”
