Waste adage hasn't gelled with Mount Everest climbers

Human waste is a massive problem
 on this massive mountain.
The idea that we should “Take only pictures and leave only footprints” has not apparently been front of mind for those who have climbed the world’s highest peak, Mount Everest.

The ABC reports that Mount Everest has become the world’s highest garbage dump with climber and trekkers leaving behind much more than just footprints.

The story: “Nepal cracks down on climbers littering on Mount Everest during treks” reports that a 2014 rule for a garbage deposit of $4,000 to be forfeited by any expedition from which a climber fails to bring back eight kilograms of trash and human waste will be strictly enforced this year.

“Human excrement is a bigger problem than the oxygen bottles, torn tents, broken ladders, and cans or wrappers teams left behind, Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA) chief Ang Tshering Sherpa said,” the ABC reports.

The same casual attitude that many have to the wilderness of Mount Everest can be seen all around the world and is now manifesting itself in global warming, a dilemma brought on by the casual dumping of society’s wastes into earth’s atmosphere and oceans.
