Discussion about renewable technologies and baseload power

T

he claim is often made that renewable technologies cannot supply baseload power.

What is 'baseload power', and do we actually need it? This seminar will explore whether a portfolio of renewable technologies can reliably supply our power needs.

Our speakers will explore the emergence of new energy storage technologies and the opportunities they present for renewable energy integration. They will question the role different energy storage solutions play in the supply of reliable electricity, and at what cost?

Speaker for the Wednesday, August 19 event in the Carrillo Gantner Theatre at the University of Melbourne are the Deputy Director of the Melbourne Energy Institute, Dr Roger Dargaville; the Foundation Director, Centre for Sustainable Energy Systems, Australian National University, Dr Andrew Blakers; and the Group Manager Planning, Australian Energy Market Operator, Ms Nicola Falcon.

Moderator of the event will be ABC News Breakfast host, Virginia Trioli.

The discussion starts at 6:30pm and light refreshments will be provided following the 8:00pm close.
