Theatre Company presents ‘Our Climate’ a unique night of theatre, speakers and
discussion.
This special one night event on Friday, August 14, intertwines
theatre and discussion with an interactive Playback theatre performance and a Q
& A panel featuring three prominent experts:
Isabella Morand, from 350.org.au – an organisation which is
encouraging the community to mitigate climate change through divestment by
moving investments and banking out of fossil fuel industries.
A Professor of Atmospheric Science in the School of Earth
Sciences and the ARC Centre of Excellence for Climate System Science at the University of Melbourne, David Karoly, is among “the cast”.
An author and activist from the Kiribati Pacific Island
community, Marita Rose, who has been involved in her family’s efforts to adapt
against the ever-increasing high tide is another in the discussion.
CEO of Beyond Zero Emissions, Adjunct Professor – Institute
of Environmental Studies, University of NSW, Associate – Melbourne Sustainable
Society Institute, University of Melbourne; Visiting Fellow ANU, Dr Stephen
Bygrave.
This event aims to create a genuine forum on climate change
that includes the personal sphere – through personal story – as well as
sparking discussion about the past, future and how we can create positive
change in the face of environmental threat.
The core of this event is made up of your stories,
experiences and perspectives brought to life on stage. “Our Climate” offers a
unique forum that traverses science and art, personal observation, reflection
and robust conversation.
The themes of this event include our lives, the climate
problem and potential solutions.
Audience interaction in the form of speaking to the event
facilitator is entirely voluntary; similar to ABC’s Q&A. Audience members
do not act in performances, but may offer thoughts and personal stories if they
wish.
The performance features Melbourne Playback’s team of actors
and musicians who have been praised for the sensitivity, emotional intelligence
and fun they bring to performances.
“..the ensemble operates like a well-oiled machine…the improvisation is
terrifically skilled” – Cameron Woodhead, The Age
