Victorian crops 'crunched' by big dry

is boots make a crunching noise nearly every step he takes in the dusty paddock.

The crop he's walking through – and stepping on because of its low height – should be approaching waist height, but it's brown, dead, barely up to Brad Martin's ankles and crunching underfoot.

The failed crop, in a large paddock near Warracknabeal, is one of many crops smashed by the severe dry that has hit Victoria's grain belt.
