Driverless, electric cars confirm what Einstein was saying

A
lbert Einstein argued that we could not resolve our problems by using thinking similar to that which created them.

The driverless, or even the electric car, is of that regime – both are simply a variation on a theme that has taken the world down a rather deep hole.

The motor car, and its many ancillary industries, evolved from man’s discovery of fossil fuels and driverless, or electric cars, are simply an extension of an industry that is the antipathy of a healthy planet.

Public transport falls, largely, within the same realm, but it is a vastly more efficient user of those ancient ingredients and when truly public in both ownership and use, is clearly more sustainable in a world facing energy poverty.

Beyond the fact that public transport is more efficient in every sense, it does not result in a world criss-crossed by an intricate network and roads, highways and freeways that breed only traffic chaos.

Read the story on The Conversation by the Professor of Sustainability at Curtin University, Peter Newman - “Going down the same old road: driverless cars aren’t a fix for our transport woes.”
