After a humid
Friday that reached 35.4 degrees in Melbourne, southerly winds brought
temperatures back down to 23 degrees by 5pm.
Melbourne didn't quite reach a predicted high of 37 degrees,
but temperatures varied wildly across the state. While Melbourne Airport
recorded 40.9 degrees at about 3.30pm, it was much cooler in other parts of
Victoria, such as Aireys Inlet which reached just 21.8 degrees.
At 9am on Friday, Melbourne was the hottest capital city in
Australia.
Meanwhile, the bureau has issued a severe thunderstorm
warning for damaging wind for the Mallee, Wimmera and parts of the Central,
South West and North Central regions of Victoria.
