Paris joy as nations agree on ambitious targets


Jubilation in Paris.
The global climate change conference in Paris has adopted an international accord aimed at transforming the world's fossil fuel-driven economy within decades and slowing the pace of global warming to well below 2 degrees Celsius.

French foreign minister Laurent Fabius ended nearly a fortnight of gruelling talks with the bang of a gavel, marking consensus among the ministers, who stood for several minutes to clap and shout their joy.
