A new era of nuclear fusion-powered electricity

The $14 billion nuclear power machine in France.
The first and largest machine of its kind is currently under construction at the French scientific research center Cadarache, which specialises in nuclear power research.

It’s called ITER, Latin for “The Way,” and is expected to usher in a new era of nuclear fusion-powered electricity — something scientists and engineers have been working toward for over 40 years.

By fusing two forms of hydrogen, called deuterium and tritium, together, the machine would generate 500 megawatts of power. That’s ten times more energy than it would require to operate.

(I admire the endeavour and intellect it has taken to create and develop “ITER”, but the optimism that surrounds it is severely dented by the fact that it is still about a centralized power system which the profit-centred corporations would contol, counter to the fact that the world of tomorrow is going to need a decentralized array; and power supply system that is community controlled – Robert McLean).
