'Sold out' inaugural oration sees plea for climate justice.

Mary Robinson pleads for climate justice on
Tuesday night for disempowered people
during
the inaugural MSSI oration.

“Sold out” was the tag for Tuesday night’s Melbourne Sustainable Society Institute’s (MSSI) first oration.

The 300-seat David P Derham Theatre at the University of Melbourne’s Law Building filled quickly when the doors opened about 5:45pm.

People flooded into listen to the president of the “Mary Robinson Foundation – Climate Justice”, Mary Robinson, deliver that inaugural oration entitled “Climate Justice after Paris”.

Ms Robinson, the former UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy on Climate Change, the former High Commissioner for Human Rights and the former President of Ireland, largely views climate through the prism of human rights.

“Former” appears in my of her acknowledgements, but not with regard the foundation that bears her name as through it she is seeking climate justice for those without a voice.

The Mary Robinson Foundation website says:

“A centre for thought leadership, education and advocacy on the struggle to secure global justice for those people vulnerable to the impacts of climate change who are usually forgotten – the poor, the disempowered and the marginalised across the world.
It is a platform for solidarity, partnership and shared engagement for all who care about global justice, whether as individuals and communities suffering injustice or as advocates for fairness in resource-rich societies.
The Foundation provides a space for facilitating action on climate justice to empower the poorest people and countries in their efforts to achieve sustainable and people-centred development.”

Tuesday night’s oration was recorded and the video will be the posted on the MSSI website within a few days.
