Women of Science was 'inspiring'

Professor Emma Johnston - she
wants more women in
 the climate change conversation.
“Inspiring” is inadequate to describe the sense that emerged from watching “Women of Science” at the National Press Club address.

The capacities of the trio of women, Professor Emma Johnston, Professor Nalini Joshi and Professor Nalini Joshi, was not just astounding, but left me, as a man with a sense of guilt for I have been a part of the paternalism that has long limited the roles of women. That male control continues today.

That said, it was fascinating to watch and listen to these three scientists their achievements and frustrations, bu then here Professor Johnston emphasise the importance on involving women in recognizing and dealing with climate change.

As a Research Fellow at the University of New South Wales and inaugural Director of the Sydney Harbour Research Program at the Sydney Institute of Marine Science, Professor Johnston, who also investigates the ecology of human impacts in marine systems, see climate change as a huge and misunderstood threat.

Watch National Press Club’s “Women of Science”.
