Sunshine Coast has a 'hot August night'

WOW that was a hot August night. Still in the grip of winter and the weather gods throw down an 18.9 degree, Bali-like overnight minimum.

In fact the Australian tourism Mecca sitting on the edge of the equator was recording 17 degrees at 8.01am (AEST).

The 18.9 degrees minimum recorded at Sunshine Coast Airport at 2.30am caused a hot sticky night at a time when most have the winter doona and pyjamas deployed.

It is not however the highest winter or August minimum recorded in the region.

Weather forecaster James Thompson said that event occurred in 2009, also on August 24, when the temperature gauge tipped 19 degrees.
