Back to school in the U.S., but is it also time to go electric?

Back to school is an opportunity to
electrify the U.S. school bus system.
Some 50 million children in communities across the United States are heading back to school over the next couple of weeks.

About half of these students will get to school on one of 480,000 yellow school buses, more than 90 percent of which are powered by diesel fuel.

School buses are an essential service to help school-aged children get to and from school safely.

But using diesel fuel to power these buses erodes some of the benefits, bringing negative environmental and health impacts.

Diesel emissions contribute to atmospheric greenhouse gas concentrations and expose children to serious health risks. Fortunately, an alternative is emerging: electric school buses.

Read that story on the WorldWatch Institute blog - “It’s time to go back to school – is it also time to go electric?”
