Warnings issued for Florida as Hurricane Matthew turns from Cuba

South eastern Florida was under hurricane and tropical storm warnings as the eye of Hurricane Matthew moved off the north-eastern coast of Cuba, the National Hurricane Center said in an advisory.

Hurricane Matthew was about 30 kilometres north-west of the eastern tip of Cuba with winds of 215 kilometres per hour, the centre said.

The storm was expected to turn toward the north-north-west during the day, followed by a north-west turn on Wednesday night (local time), the hurricane centre said.
