Melbourne weather: prepare for a surprisingly hot weekend

Hot nights will follow hot days.

The weekend's extreme heat has come as something of a surprise, with the forecast for Saturday revised up six degrees in the last 48 hours.

A top of 37 is the latest prediction for Melbourne on Saturday, and it will be even hotter elsewhere in the state.

On Friday, beach weather was already in full swing, when humid conditions descended on the capital city.

The mercury hovered around 35 degrees at Melbourne's Olympic Park at 4.30pm.
