Saving food, saving cash and rescuing the environment

Food may well be the largest chunk of weekly household budgets, but much of it is for naught as nearly half of what we buy ends up in the SPC Ardmona Kids Town .

And not only is it a sheer economic waste, it is environmentally costly.

Shepparton people will have the chance to learn about this wilful waste when the film, “Just Eat It, is screened under the stars at the SPC Ardmona Kids Town on Thursday, February 9.

The Greater Shepparton City Council, through its Activities in the Park program with the support of Shepparton Food Share, has enabled this free event.

The film has been described as an insightful documentary that brings farmers, retailers, inspiring organizations and consumers to the table in a cinematic story that is equal parts education and delicious entertainment.

The evening will include a tour of Kids Town, a food swap for which people have been encouraged to bring along any excess fruit or vegetables and although the Kids Town café will be open people can also bring along their own food and drinks.

People should also bring their own cushions and blankets, and questions should be directed to council’s waste department at 5832 9700 or via email.
