The group interested in creating a large scale solar farm for Tatura East claims the project will offset more than 100 000 tonnes of carbon and create hundreds of construction jobs while it is being built.
The project that CleanGen is proposing, called the Tatura East Solar Farm, is expected to have a capacity of about 45MW, if Greater Shepparton City Council pushes forward with the proposal.
But it has so far received a number of objections from landowners.
CleanGen claims the facility would be the equivalent to 17 000 cars being taken off the road, offset 104 000 tonnes of carbon and create an equivalent to powering 24 000 homes.
Two hundred construction jobs have been spruiked, alongside five to 10 operations and maintenance roles.
Council has received the application for a planning permit for a solar facility proposed for Ferguson Rd, Tatura East.
The application estimates construction would cost $50 million.
