Gas wars fire up in Victoria as consumers feel the heat

The region is running short of gas too, at least out at sea where it's legal to tap into it.

Port Campbell's offshore gas wells have supplied the nation with energy for decades and helped to make Victoria Australia's leading gas exporter, but they are running dry.

Gas there is "in steep decline, with offshore fields at or near end-of-life", Australia's energy market operator, AEMO, warns.
