Adani mine supporters either ignorant of the facts or limited in their thinking

Those who support the proposed Adani coal mine in Queensland are either ignorant of the facts or refuse to accommodate them within their thinking processes.
Paul Hawken - he damns coal-fired power plants.
Writing in his new book, “Drawdown: The Most Comprehensive Plan Ever Proposed to Reverse Global Warming”, Paul Hawken said: “When their entire life cycle is taken into account, solar farms curtail 94 percent of the carbon emissions that coal plants emit and completely eliminate emissions of sulfur and nitrous oxides, mercury, and particulates. Beyond the ecosystem damage those pollutants do, they are major contributors to outdoor air pollution, responsible for 3.7 million premature deaths in 2012”.

The Australian Labor party is presently in a bind over how it should approach the Adani question in the coming Batman by-election, seemingly trapped by the suggestion that stated opposition to the mine will win it votes in the inner-Melbourne seat and yet, almost certainly, cost it two of three seats in northern Queensland.

Those who align themselves with Hawken’s thoughts are many but one, described as being “Labor through and through, and obviously opposed to the mine, was interviewed today on Radio National by Fran Kelly - listen to the interview here.

Paul Hawken is being featured at Melbourne’s Sustainable Living Festival and he is also speaking at Bendigo’s Drawdown Summit later this month.
