California firefighters battling worst blaze in the state's history

Los Angeles: Two fires in California have merged into a single front becoming the largest bushfire in the state's history.

Fuelled by strong wind, excessive heat and dry vegetation, the Mendocino Complex fire has almost doubled the amount of ground it covered in just two days.

It is roughly 115,000 hectares in size and is just 30 per cent contained.
