Politics wins as Turnbull's flagship energy policy teeters

Malcolm Turnbull’s flagship energy policy has become a prisoner of politics, thrown into a holding cell for a month or more to learn its fate.

The Prime Minister has been denied a deal with the states on his National Energy Guarantee, which is meant to increase reliability and reduce emissions, and must try for a second chance in late September.

This was an easy victory for Victorian Labor Premier Daniel Andrews and ACT Labor Chief Minister Andrew Barr, given that any single jurisdiction could use its power over the NEG to ensure a delay.
