The severe drought that is crippling NSW is drifting south with a third of Victoria in the midst of one of its driest periods on record and little rain on the horizon.

Drought has been declared in most of Gippsland due to a one-in-20 year rainfall deficiency, while Mildura is looking down the barrel of its driest year on record.
The state's south-west is also bracing for severely dry conditions this summer, but does not look set to be as adversely affected as other parts of Victoria due a decent smattering of rainfall over winter.
