Wesfarmers mines a path towards electric vehicles

It owns Bunnings, the huge hardware stores where you can buy anything from paint to pot-plants, and Officeworks for your printers and pencils. But its plans for a lithium refinery in an industrial site on Perth's outskirts is where Wesfarmers sees part of its future.

The Perth-based conglomerate is best known as a retailer, a very successful one that generates tens of billions of dollars of sales at its checkouts each year. As well as Bunnings and Officeworks, Wesfarmers owns Kmart and Target.
