It was a tickle in his throat that led Daryl Budgeon to buy an electric car.

Driving to his work in central Melbourne, Mr Budgeon had a persistent sore throat, which he blamed on city traffic and air pollution.
He decided he didn’t want to own a car that added to this cocktail, so he is now the owner of a 2012 Mitsubishi i-Miev.
“Individually it’s low-cost to run, they’re easier and more pleasant to drive, and they can be more convenient, and you don’t have to stop for petrol,” he said.
