Warringah independent Zali Steggall wants action on climate change; action from Australia’s LNP government.
She will release her long-awaited private members bill calling for a conscience vote in the national parliament on net-zero emissions by 2050.
Ms Steggall has set up the website “Climate Act Now” at which people can support the idea and along with that take their concerns direct to their respective federal member.
She will introduce a private member’s bill to Parliament in March and call for a conscience vote.

“Australia needs sensible climate change legislation to transition to the future.” she says.
Preamble to the Bill says:
“Climate change is real for Australia, with immediate and deepening risks to our natural environment, economy and way of life.
“Our unprecedented early summer bushfires are a clear indication of the worst of those risks, and how they will affect some communities more than others.
“But there are also opportunities to prosper, given our enormous natural, human and financial wealth. To protect our economy and environment, Australia must have strong national plans to adapt to increasing impacts of climate change, to reduce and mitigate its risks and to leverage its opportunities,” it says.
