Bruce will discuss sustainable urban development in Tatura

Issues of sustainable urban development will be discussed at Tatura on Wednesday night.



The Director of the Melbourne-based Urban Initiatives, Bruce Echberg, will speak at a meeting of Tatura Transitions.

Mr Echberg has a broad knowledge of life in the Goulburn Valley, owning a former bank building in Nathalia and having been intimately involved with many Tatura and Shepparton projects.

His company played a key role in the design and creation of Shepparton’s Maude St Mall, the refurbished of Victoria Park Lake, design for the Goulburn River pedestrian bridge, Shepparton showground’s redevelopment, the city’s war memorial, Tatura’s Lake Bartlett, Merrigum Park and two significant projects in Toolamba.

Wednesday’s 7:30pm meeting is open to the public and Tatura Transition’s Ross Musolino has encouraged people to attend to hear Mr Echberg, who is one of Victoria’s most respected architects, discuss how he sees the town evolving.

Mr Musolino said: “As an Architect, Landscape Architect and Urban Designer, Bruce is well versed to discuss urban design policy, sign systems and development of streets, open spaces and many forms of civic and public spaces, as well as sustainable urban development and water sensitive urban design.”

The Wednesday, June 13, meeting will be held at the Tatura Community House, which can be accessed through the Kerford St car park.

Aligning our efforts with the intent of the Pale Blue Dot

The “Pale Blue Dot” is worth a few minutes of you time and helps put the dilemmas of Beneath the Wisteria supporters in context – for me it adds an urgency to the idea that we align our efforts with the intent of the “pale blue dot” we call home, or at least work to protect the environment that allows us to live on this “dot!”

'Entertaining and thought provoking' March gathering

Saturday’s March gathering Beneath the Wisteria was, in the words of Tatura’s Ross Musolino, “Most entertaining and thought provoking”.

Ross, the fellow behind Tatura Transitions, was one of 15 people who joined Saturday’s conversation about energy.

The March 31 meeting, the fourth since Beneath the Wisteria was established in December 2011, saw an enriching variety of people join the conversation, including the CEO of GVCommunity Energy, Geoff Lodge.

Making the attendance even more impressive were the five apologies tendered, which is remarkable considering the event is wholly informal.

Saturday’s conversation, under the umbrella of a response to climate change, was about energy and its use and Geoff was able to provide many insights into the realities of solar power.

Those at Saturday’s discussion agreed that much was still to be said about energy and its use and so it will again be the topic when the group reassembles on Saturday, March 28. – same place, same time.
