Good governance leads to climate change mitigation

C

limate change mitigation hinges entirely on governance and democracy appears to be the best avenue to changes so urgently needed.

Neil deGrasse Tyson - he's concerned we
are becoming an ill-informed democracy.
However, despite the protestations of many, democracy in its ideal sense is under threat and little by little, piece by piece, oligarchy is replacing it.

Elite rule is becoming pre-eminent, inequality is becoming even further entrenched and what exists favours a few, while most scramble for the scraps.

in the hope that people will get a regular dose of science as pain-free as possible.

He thinks that by embedding discussions about science between pop culture discussions and entertaining asides, the science will go down easy, and even leave you wanting more.

deGrasse is concerned, however, that the practice of politicians denying science will be the end of an informed democracy.

The ClimateProgress story, “Neil deGrasse Tyson: Politicians Denying Science Is ‘Beginning Of The End Of An Informed Democracy’” discusses this along with a trusty cast of comedians and science-minded folks like Bill Nye.

Oligarchy enthhusiast declares renewable energy adherent as 'public enemy'

The democracy naturally embedded in renewable energy appears to unsettle many influential Australians who claim to champion democratic government, but who are actually agents of oligarchy.

Matthew Wright - an adherent to
renewable energy, but seen as
a public enemy.
Matthew Wright has long encouraged Australians, and Australia, to embrace renewable energy though Zero Emissions, but now has been described as public enemy No.2 behind the newly elected Victorian premier Dan Andrews.

Maurice Newman, the chairman of Tony Abbott’s Business Advisory Council, has declared Mr Wright as someone to be treated with suspicion.

Writing on the Climate Spectator, Mr Wright asked “Who’s the socialist, Maurice Newman?”

Mr Wright recently wrote: “Three things Vic Labor should do to kick-start renewable energy construction', in which I argued for the removal of the anti-business, anti-development, 2km exclusion zone around renewable energy facilities. The removal of this policy, when enacted, will get the wheels of business moving again. Newman has, however, represented my view inaccurately, suggesting that I favour the removal of “health safeguards” put in place to protect members of our community.”

That observation saw the former Beyond Zero Emissions officer labelled as a “public enemy”.
