Fewer cars on the road is a good thing: but how and why?

The inter-linking of trade in motor
cars is intricate and complex.
Our measureable move into urban areas and steady improvements in public transit systems is reducing the number of cars we own and the number of kilometres we travel.

The urbanization of the world brings its own problems, but the reduced reliance on motor cars is obviously a good thing, but as yet it is unclear in what way.

In its story: “The future of driving: Seeing the back of the car”, The Economist said: Cars are integral to modern life. They account for 70 per cent of all journeys not made on foot in the OECD, which includes most developed countries.”
