Australia needs to triple its emissions target

Our Tony Abbott-led coalition government appears opposed to doing anything useful to combat or mitigate climate change.

And with the government denying an indisputable reality, Australia’s Climate Change Authority (CCA) has declared that if the nation is to have any credible response we need to triple or carbon emissions reduction target.

The rather peculiar difference of view is obvious in an ABC story headed: “Australia must triple carbon emissions reduction target: Climate Change Authority”.

CCA chief executive Anthea Harris said the current five per cent target was not sensible from an economic perspective because greenhouse gas emissions were growing every year.
