Media is treating our 'enemies' with lenience

by Robert McLean

My shoulders droop as I read about how the clear and indisputably facts of climate science are treated by the media, both in Australia and internationally.

Sadly most in control the world’s media made their riches through the exploitation of the fossil-fuel powered market system and so it is highly unlikely they will suddenly throw their weight and influence of their businesses behind any impetus that would see society shift to more restrained way of living.

The Guardian discusses shifts in the media that seem to be increasingly providing exposure to those who deny the reality of climate change, or at least leaving their viewers, readers or listeners with a view that the science of global warming is as yet unsettled. It’s not.

In its latest story headed: “If the BBC becoming the UK version of Fox News on global warming?” The Guardian suggests the BBC has decided to follow the Fox News model of “fair and balanced” reporting on global warming and climate change.

To effectively deal with climate change, the world has to be on a war footing and in that sense the deniers, which are regulars on Fox News, are becoming more entrenched with the BBC and are feted by a few news organizations here in Australia under the guise of “balance”, are in fact the enemy, not just the enemies of a few, but that of society as a whole.

Do they deserve any exposure?
