Building at Badgerys Creek may well be a crime against humanity

Australia’s Coalition government needs to listen to and take advice from the World Bank rather than build a second Sydney airport at Badgerys Creek.

Rachel Kyte from the
World Bank.
the bank’s Group Vice President and Special Envoy, Climate Change, Rachel Kyte, said finance ministers know they must lead action at home that secures resilient growth, delivers jobs and drives low-carbon growth.

The Badgerys Creek airport and the general intent of the Australian Government is contrary to that advice for it is about creating energy-intensive jobs and caters to industries that because of their nature are high carbon emitters.

Top of her list of “must do” things is carbon pricing, the very thing that Tony Abbott and his coalition cohort is determined to remove from Australia’s political landscape.

Beneath the Wisteria convenor, Robert McLean, said such a move at this critical time is synonymous with a crime against humanity.
