Fears driven by
budgetary concerns have seen Australian businesses advocating a move away from
fossil fuel intensive industries.
A story in today’s Melbourne Age by Lisa Cox, suggests
businesses can now see the hollowness of the pre-election caterwauling by PM
Tony Abbott of Australia’s “great big new tax”.
Lisa’s story today headed: “Businesses want tougher climate action, low carbon economy: survey” said: “The survey of 245 companies also
found that 87 per cent believe the government should not act alone in setting
Australia's post-2020 targets and should follow advice from an independent body
such as the Climate Change Authority”.
“The poll found 50 per cent unequivocally support toughening
Australia's low target to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 5 per cent on 2000
levels by 2020,” she wrote.
