call for zero carbon dioxide emissions by 2040
has come from the Australia’s Climate and Health Alliance (CAHA).
Just today the CAHA released its submission to the Department
of Prime Minister and Cabinet United Nations Framework Convention on Climate
Change (UNFCCC).
The alliance has called zero emissions in 2040, with a
minimum target of:
• 20% reduction
of 2000 CO2 levels by 2020;
• 40% by 2025;
• 60% by 2030;
• 80% by 2035;
and
• negative net
emissions by 2050.
Executive Director of the alliance, Fiona Armstrong says, “Our
top recommendations are for immediate closure of the seven oldest coal fired
power stations and a ban on ALL new coal mining licences.”
