hina’s announcement
that it will stop the rise in its carbon dioxide emissions within the next 15
years must be somewhat unsettling for Australia’s coal industry.
Australian coal plays a large role China’s carbon dioxide
emission levels and if they are to stop them within 15 years that either means
using far less coal or learning about and employing an effective carbon and
capture storage process.
The announcement that China would stop the rise in its
carbon dioxide emissions by 2030 was included in the release of its strategy
for the United Nations Paris summit later this year.
The ABC reports: “In
a plan that largely mirrors commitments Beijing made in a joint US environment
agreement last year, the world's biggest greenhouse gas emitter said it would
try to curb its carbon emissions before a 2030 target.”
