ustainability is more
than what is plainly obvious - it is about how we live, why we prefer those
behaviours and how our society is governed, and our history.
Those complexities become obvious when considering the
history of Haida Gwaii, the islands off the coast of British Columbia that used
to be called the Queen Charlotte Islands.
When considering the history of the Haida people, you must also
consider their relationship with the islands and with the trees.
Lloyd Alter, who writes for Treehugger visited the island
recently as a guest of The Rainforest Alliance and it is worth reading his
story - “Sustainable forestry is about more than just trees: it's also about culture, history and politics”.
